How much do you win in a demolition derby? ›

The total prize money was increased from $8,900 to $20,650 for the 2020 Derby. The biggest check will go to the winner of the large car Demolition Derby. In 2019, the winner received $1,500. This year, with the increased payout, that prize will be $4,000.

There will be prize money for the TOP THREE "BEST APPEARING" CARS. NO PRIZE MONEY WILL BE AWAREDED TO THE WINNERS OF THE DERBY! This Demolition Derby is open to any 1980 and newer full and mid-size size vehicles, including station wagons.

The goal of a demo derby is to be behind the wheel of the only drivable vehicle in the theatre. As drivers navigate the track, each develops a strategy for success. Some take the offensive and demolish as many other cars as they can, as quickly as they can. Many take a defensive position to absorb each hit.

Demolition Derby in the mud. Some rules require some drivers to have roll over bars and cages inside the vehicle. The rules usually allow the drivers to crash into another vehicle every two minutes. If not, they can be labeled as sandbagging and they can be disqualified.

An event usually begins with drivers lined up on the track facing rear to rear, or circling on an oval track. Drivers are usually required to crash into another vehicle every 2 minutes or they are labeled as "sandbagging" and become disqualified.

Some races may end quickly in a fury of carnage, while others may evolve into a slugfest of endurance. 3 – 15 minutes per race is the historical range at The Dirt Oval. All efforts are made to deliver an efficient production and thrilling experience.

"You use a lot of the same aspects. There's just a lot more speed — you go 70 to 80 (miles per hour) at 34, but you might go 25 in the demo derby."
