A couple of days back, my daughter had a poem recitation competition at her school. And she was a little reluctant to participate.

That’s when Dilip recited a poem to her and she instantly took the paper from him and started reading the poem out loud. The next thing we knew, she was all ready to participate in the competition.

Her enthusiasm was worth seeing.

She practiced and practiced until she perfected it.

After the recitation competition, we happened to meet her class teacher and she was ga-ga about the performance.

It was a poem about girls/women and the poet was none other than Dilip.

So, the essence of the poem was on the multiple roles that women play and the amount of multi-skilling that they do. And it also spoke about why they should be given their rightful respect and due.

The poem had a nice flavor to it. It spoke about some of the Hindu goddesses and how they are considered the source of strength and knowledge and how they were a representation of one of the many “bhava(character)” that a woman plays in her daily life.

When my little daughter completed reciting the poem at home, I felt a kind of pride. I felt a sense of satisfaction that I am being recognized.

That my husband put it in words and that my little daughter so enthusiastically got ready to recite it, meant that they took pride in recognizing me and my efforts as a woman.
