Moonveil Requirements

Since the Moonveil is a Katana, it requires relatively high dexterity. The Moonveil has a strength requirement of 13 and a dexterity rating of 18.

Where Moonveil differs from other Katanas is in its intelligence scaling. Read our article on Best Elden Ring Strength Weapons to get more familiar with them.

It is no basic Katana, the Moonveil requires an intelligence rating of 23, making it the highest intelligence requiring Katana in the game and it does 87 magic damage at base alongside 73 physical damage.

It has a strength rating of E, a dexterity rating of D, and an Intelligence rating of C. I recommend a dexterity and intelligence of 40+ to maximize the utility of the Moonveil in the Elden Ring.

Moonveil can be upgraded using smithing stones which can be found in abundance in Limgrave. The easiest early-game areas for smithing stones are the Morne Tunnel and the Limgrave Tunnel. It can also be infused and turned into a weapon focused on a stat of your choice.

My Tips & Recommendations

Moonveil has a moveset consisting of slash attacks. It is similar to that of basic Katanas in Dark Souls 3 and consists of quick attacks in succession.

Moonveil has a unique skill called the transient slash. It is reminiscent of the quick slash attacks in Katanas in previous fromsoft games, it does a very fast quickdraw slash with a followup that is hard to read and not choreographed.

For skills recommendations, using Ashes of War, I recommend attacks that have chained attacks or an Intelligence-focused Ash of War that has projectiles or an AOE attack. This can help you make the most out of the Moonveil.

We recommend using this weapon for a build that wants to be very confrontational alongside intelligence-ranged attacks. Using the Moonveil with an Ash of War like the Lorretta Slash or Gravitas while having staff ready with Glintstone shards can be extremely powerful. This will allow players to have a very powerful yet balanced king of gameplay consisting of both close-quarters and melee gameplay.

Would I Recommend?

Due to its versatility, Moonveil will excel at everything, from PvE to PvP. Its quick, powerful attacks allow for devastating combos and damage in PvE, helping you get through everything, from bosses to ads to hordes of rats or dogs with little difficulty.

Even at times of difficulty or overwhelming moments, Ashes of War or Sorceries will allow the moonveil to prevail. All in all, for PvE, Moonveil is an excellent weapon.

This weapon also shines in PvP. For the same reasons that helped it excel in PvE, Moonveil excels in PvP. The quick, powerful slashes coupled with the devastating Ashes of war of your choice means every opponent will be facing a formidable weapon. Katanas have always been devastating in PvP in FromSoft games, Moonveil is no exception.

Questions About Moonveil

Yes. Moonveil is an excellent weapon more than capable enough of getting you through the entire game. Make sure to level its required stats though.
